Lens Care
Anyone who has ever worn glasses for more
than five minutes knows just how quickly
they can become dirty and diminish the
clarity of your vision. Sunglasses are no
exception to this rule and even require a
few extra considerations when choosing the
right method to clean them.
Whether you have polarized clear glass lens
sunglasses or transitional red lens
sunglasses there are special coatings on the
surface that aid in the elimination of
ultraviolet light rays and the glare it can
cause. These surface coatings can be easily
scratched if you grab just any old cloth or
paper towel to wipe them with. The first
rule of lens care is to use a soft lint free
cloth. Adding a specially developed glass
cleaning solution will not only remove dust
and dirt safely but can also ionize the lens
surface and somewhat repel dust for a while.
Lens care and cleaning is an especially
important procedure if you are sporting a
pair of the interchangeable lens sunglasses.
The extra manipulation of the lenses will
leave fingerprints on them and some coatings
can become degraded from the action of skin
oils. Other situations may develop which
intensifies this need. If you were out fly
fishing and had a pair of interchangeable
lenses you would want one set for watching
the surface with the polarized reduced glare
set. But then after coming out of the water,
might need to switch to a clear set for the
delicate job of cleaning your catch. Without
proper lens care, the oils you would be
rubbing on the lenses while switching them
could very well damage the coating
permanently. This kind of damage is
especially noticeable on for instance a pair
of Bausch and Lomb rose lens sunglasses. The
splotchy effect left by finger oils will
ruin them quickly.
After spending over a hundred dollars for a
pair of Oakley Opticals Juliet sunglasses
with polarized lenses, it would be poor
investment procedure to not spend two or
three dollars on a pack of pre-moistened
eyeglass cleaning pads. Cleaning your lenses
properly will not only increase the life of
your investment but give a better overall
appearance to whatever color lens you think
are the best.
Coupling your lens care along with special
cleaning cloths and solutions, a small
repair kit is another necessary piece of
equipment. For fewer than ten dollars online
you can get the entire setup of tools,
cloths and cleaners in a convenient carry
case. Take care of your glass lenses and
they will take care of your vision.
